Super Sprints to race through Penticton

Penticton Paddle Sports will be hosting the Okanagan Super Sprints races this June, with paddle racers taking each other on in fast-paced showdowns.

The competitions will see teams of racers on boats racing across 250 and 500metre distances. This year uses a new format where Saturday races will feature dragon boat competition, while Sunday will showcase outrigger sprints. Teams will race head-to-head, allowing for competitive tactics and fun. Competitions include men’s, women’s, and mixed crews, as well as a “Turnapalooza” gauntlet between the fastest finishing teams.

Despite the fierce competition, the Super Sprints advertise a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Winners will receive libations and refreshments instead of traditional awards. Spots are also available for novice crews and steers-people, encouraging newcomers or those looking to try a different discipline of boating. The event’s organizers also host the annual Penticton Dragonboat Festival in the fall.

The Super Sprints event is also a fundraiser, with proceeds going towards Muscular Dystrophy Canada. The Penticton Paddle Sports Organization has raised over $45,000 for the cause over past years. Funds from this year’s event will also go towards building a new boathouse on Skaha Lake. Events like this often use methods like flyer printing and presentations to encourage people to donate.

The 2026 edition of the Okanagan Super Sprints will take place on June 13 and 14 on Skaha Lake in Penticton.
