After a successful first two editions, the Coquitlam Walk and Roll will be looking to make it a hat trick this May, benefiting the GBS/CIDP Foundation of Canada.
The Walk and Roll is intended to raise awareness of and funds for those suffering from Guillain-Barre Syndrome and Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy, a disorder of the peripheral nerves that causes a loss of reflexes and physical strength. Participants will traverse a one-kilometre distance through whatever method is comfortable, coming together as a community.
Each walker or roller will raise money that goes towards the GBS/CIDP Foundation of Canada. High fundraisers will receive benefits including a promotional T-shirt, a “Hero Box” with commemorative items, and a Turtlewear cap. Fundraising events like this often use Print shops or similar services to create fundraising rewards and other items to remember the occasion.
The event is chaired by Coquitlam local and GBS sufferer Cheryl Dean. Dean has shared her story and written that she volunteers with the foundation for two reasons:
“1. to help people, who have been afflicted by these rare illnesses, so they know they’re not alone;
2. to provide education to the front-line medical community so that these rare illnesses can be diagnosed quicker which means better outcomes through early treatment.”
The 2026 Coquitlam Walk and Roll will take place on the morning of May 3 at Lafarge Park.
