Burning Mom is a one-woman show written and directed by Mieko Ouchi, about an elderly widow’s quest to take a road trip to notorious desert culture festival Burning Man. In this production the role of Dorothy, the titular “Burning Mom”, will be played by Susinn McFarlen.
Other than the one-person cast, Burning Mom will be a fully-produced show with crew including set designer Patrick Rizzotti, costumes designer Kirsten McGhie and stage manager Rebecca Mulvihill. Promotional material promises a story that is both humorous and touching:
“You’ll laugh and cry as Dorothy’s story, based on the playwright’s mother’s life, invites you to take risks and enjoy the small moments in life—come along for the ride!”
The Arts Club Theatre Company production, which is known for its artistic training and plays with varying levels of production, will be touring throughout the Vancouver area and other parts of British Columbia in January and March, including six shows across five days in Coquitlam. Small theatrical productions like this often use methods like flyer printing and social media to help attract local theatre lovers.
Burning Mom will be performed in Coquitlam at the Evergreen Cultural Centre from January 27 to 31, 2026.
