Butterflies are important pollinators of many species of plants found in the Burnaby area, and a virtual event will demonstrate ways the public can lend these creatures a helping hand.
For a variety of reasons, ranging from habitat loss to the introduction of invasive species, butterflies have been in decline. The “Bring Back the Butterflies” online workshop will offer insight into their ecology and lifecycle, including how they are often important indicator species of the overall environmental health of the locations they call home.
Ricard Beard, who is well versed in lepidoptery, will share information about these insects and the species that can be seen most commonly in the area. The function is being offered in part thanks to support from the Lighthouse Park Preservation Society, and it will be offered using the Zoom online meeting platform. The presentation will run for one and a half hours, and participation is free of charge.
