Burnaby households that are undertaking a good spring clean may want to include a stop at a local venue that will be hosting an e-waste disposal day, so that their personal data will be secure.
Those who have technology they no longer need can bring it to the Eco-Centre located at 4855 Still Creek Drive. The activity is set to run for four-hours, and there will be personnel on site to lend a hand.
The hard drives, laptops, desk top computers, and other older electronics brought will be collected and safely disposed of free of charge. Depending on their age and condition, they may be reused or repurposed by being donated to a charity, and to help keep everyone's information secure, there will be a complementary data shredding service on site as well.
Along with the larger computers, handheld devices will be welcome, as will printers, peripherals, phone systems and racks, software, servers, and specialty items such as Cisco networking, routers, and switches.
Keeping personal data secure is an important step in household safety. Communities that plan collection events for electronic items can order specially prepared marketing materials to post throughout the community from an area flyer printing company.
March 27 will see Burnaby run its Fraud Prevention and e-Waste Disposal event. Everyone is encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity.
