A brand-new housing development is coming to Burnaby, after achieving approval from Burnaby City Council.
The council has approved the next phase of the Concord Metrotown development. The first development phase, originally called the Sears Metrotown master plan, was approved back in 2019.
The new development is on the site of a past parking lot, found at the corner of Nelson Avenue and Kingsway.
The new phase 2A of the development will include two high-rise units, one of which will be 49 storeys high and the other 40 storeys.
Phase 2B will feature a 58-storey tall tower. Those two stages combined are expected to include over 1,000 market strata units, along with almost 200 non-market rental units and over 100 market rental units.
Stage 2C is expected to bring even more housing to Burnaby, the exact count to be determined at some point in the future. Developments like these can often be beneficial to local businesses, who may be able to invest in printing services to start distributing Flyers to new Burnaby residents.
Despite some previous reservations regarding the size of the units, the councillors who previously voted to oppose the development on the second reading switched their votes this time around.
