Burnaby’s children will now have a new place to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine while having fun in the great outdoors, because the city has completed construction of the redesigned play area and water feature area at Confederation Park.
The updates include a 700 square meter rubberized play surface, as well as a climbing rock, child-sized picnic table, spinner bowls, and a multi-person swing set. All were built in-house by city staff to provide preschool and older children with safe places to play.
The water feature portion of the park was designed the Vancouver firm space2space. It is over 400 square meters in area and has a variable digit timer, as well as manual switches so that it can be turned off and on as needed.
Created in a plaza style, it was designed to be a space to cool off and have an enjoyable time. Children will be able to use the sites’ water jets, water pumps, weirs, and channels. There is also ample seating, so parents and caregivers can relax while they keep an eye on their children. Though the water features are intended mainly for summer use, the seating can be used year round.
