Coinciding with Canadian Environment Week, the city of Burnaby is holding its own Environment week in early June.
The theme of this year's event is ‘Nature in the City’ and it will consist of various activities held in several venues in Burnaby. The week will be preceded by the announcement of the Environmental Awards Program winners on May 27, with awards to be handed out in several categories including Business Stewardship, Green Choices, and Youth. Recipients will be both community residents and local businesses and their representatives.
Two of the main events in Burnaby during Environment Week will be the Burnaby Enviro Festival and City-wide Garage Sale Day on June 8. The festival will feature environmental displays, face painting, musical entertainment, prizes, and 200 free veggie burgers. It should be an excellent opportunity to introduce the family to environmentalism while having a fun day out. Garage Sale Day, meanwhile, will consist of private garage sessions that have been registered with the city in advance; the goal being to recycle as much as possible.
Other events will include guided canoe trips and themed displays at Burnaby Public Library branches. It is very likely that a few Burnaby printing companies will be called upon to help design and Print some informative literature to be handed out at the various attractions.
Environment Week runs from June 2 - 8, and The Burnaby Enviro Fest will be held at Burnaby City Hall on its final day from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm. For more information, contact Burnaby City Hall at 604-294-7944.
