Local artists were asked to submit original work for the exhibit which consists of art from emerging and established artists. Judges will look at all of the donated work and select several finalists for the two awards which will be handed out during the event; the Judge’s Choice Award and the People’s Choice Award. The finalists will have their work exhibited at the event. The awards will be presented at 4:30 pm. There will also be a display of L’Arche artist’s artwork.
Selected pieces of the donated work will be put up for silent auction. In addition to the art exhibit and silent auction, there will be several musical performances during the day, including the Tetsu Taiko Drummers. Those in attendance can also help to create a community artwork with the help of artist Jane Appleby.
L’Arche is a community which is:
“dedicated to creating homes and day programs in which people with and without developmental disabilities live, work and discover faith together."
There are currently six L’Arche homes and two day programs (Neighbours Helping Neighbours and the Emmaus Centre) in Burnaby. L’Arche was created by Jean Vanier in 1974. In addition to events such as The Art of Being Together, the organization also relies on local printing companies to help design and Print merchandise such as T-Shirts and cards to help raise money.
