Art enthusiasts in British Columbia have the chance to take in some of the best work from the Netherlands this month, with two special exhibitions taking place at the Burnaby Art Gallery.
The first exhibit, ‘Storms and Bright Skies: Three Centuries of Dutch Landscapes’, is a travelling display presented by the National Gallery of Canada. There are more than 60 works on paper by famous figures such as Jan van Goyen and even Rembrandt. The emphasis is on work which was created from the 17th century onwards.
Visitors will also get the chance to enjoy ‘Inner Realms: Dutch Portraits’, an exhibit created by the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria. It will feature drawings, etchings and oil paintings by a number of artists.
Tying in with both of these events is a talk which has been given the name ‘Landscape of Current Dutch Printmaking’. This will be presented by artist and instructor Saskia Jetten and is set to take place on October 19.
Both of these exhibits will be of great interest to those who are passionate about Dutch art and printmaking. With plenty of inspiration on offer, it is also likely that visitors to the gallery will include those who work for Burnaby graphics and printing companies.
The work will be on show at the Burnaby Art Gallery until November 17. A $10 donation is suggested for admission to each display. Admission for the talk, however, is free.
