The lives of the residents of a Burnaby care home have been made a little bit brighter, thanks to the efforts of some dedicated volunteers.
The members St. Michael’s Care Auxiliary recently presented the Tapestry Foundation for Health Care, which is the main fundraiser for residences and hospitals operated by Providence Health Care, with a cheque for $12,000.
The funds will be used to help give the home’s residents a better quality of life through services like entertainment, special events, bus excursions, and the Christmas Comfort program. It will also be used to purchase flowers to help brighten the days of people in the residence’s hospice program.
The money was raised through a combination of private donations and money made in the St. Michael’s gift shop, which is run by eight of the auxiliary’s 15 members. Those who were getting older were not able to work in the shop, but still found a way made a contribution.
St. Michael’s currently has space for 128 long-term residents, as well as hospice care beds for 16.
