The Burnaby Art Gallery is set to host the Artist Poster Show over February and April. The show features Posters from the gallery's permanent collection of exhibition Posters and those created by artist-run centers in the Vancouver area, such as Artspeak.
In addition, there will be a newly commissioned 12 series poster display from Sonny Assu; 1,200 Copies of the Posters will be available for free and several special editions of the Posters can be purchased. Artists who have created the Posters include the Guerrilla Girls, Jack Shadbolt, Mary Plumb Blade, Robert Rauschenberg, Frank Stella, and Gilbert and George.
The exhibit should interest those who work for Burnaby area printing companies. Many of the Posters showing will no doubt have been printed by the areas Print companies and it will give them a chance to check out the competition.
There will be several special events taking place during the run of the exhibit. On February 12 there will be a lunch B.A.G. day. It will take place from 12:00 - 1:00 PM and will include lunch, cheese, tea, coffee and a tour of the exhibit. Tickets are $12. On February 16 there will be a curator tour by Darrin Martens beginning at 2:00 PM; admission is free. Then, on February 24, the In the B.A.G. family program will take place from 1:00 - 4:00 PM. It will feature hands-on studio activities and admission is also free.
The Artist Poster Show is showing from February 8 to April 7 at the Burnaby Art Gallery. For more information, call 604-297-4422.
