Wide Skies fest presents rooftop concerts

This August will see a music festival take to the skies of Lethbridge, with three days of performances on a five-storey rooftop.

The Wide Skies Festival features an eclectic selection of six artists over three days. The first day is headlined by Juno Award-nominated soul musician Tanika Charles. The Wednesday night show will feature blues guitarist Jesse Roper, who has worked with many legendary musicians and producers in his young career. The final evening features a doubleheader of CBC Searchlight award winner Shawnee Kish and The Harpoonist – the recently formed combination of acclaimed blues musician Shawn Hall and Big Sugar guitarist Gordie Johnson.

The festival is hosted by The Geomatic Attic, which aims to create events with a small environmental footprint. In addition to its central location, the festival will provide bike ramps, and it encourages using reusable drink containers. Attendees are also invited to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and non-alcoholic beverages to enjoy the show with.

August is a busy time for music festivals and performances, with flyer printing and online ads for upcoming shows a familiar sight, but Wide Skies is hoping its unique locale and inviting atmosphere will help set it apart.

The 2023 Wide Skies Music Festival will take place between August 1 and 3, with all shows taking place on the roof of the City of Lethbridge Park N Ride.
