In what is becoming a local tradition, the Wing Ding eating contest will return to Lethbridge this June, looking to raise money to support local causes.
The event challenges locals to see how many chicken wings they can eat in 60 seconds. Contestants must eat with their hands and directly from the bone, with judges on hand to ensure that the rules are followed. Participants will take on the challenge throughout the afternoon, with the one who can polish off the most wings crowned champion.
Each eater will also be raising money for the Streets Alive Mission. The nonprofit organization supports people facing housing and food insecurity in Lethbridge with a variety of programs, including a food kitchen and clothing bank. Fundraising events like this often use methods like flyer printing and social media outreach to help solicit interest and donations.
The Wing Ding competition will be accompanied by a community festival. Young visitors can run a bouncy obstacle course, have their face painted, or take a throw at the dunk tank. There will be a market full of local vendors, with classic summer food such as cotton candy, hot dogs and snowcones on offer. This will be the fifth annual edition of the eating contest and community festival.
The 2026 edition of the Wing Ding contest will take place on the afternoon of June 27 at the Nicholas Sheran Park Picnic Shelter in West Lethbridge.
