Musical to bring holiday favourite to Lethbridge

A beloved holiday movie will be coming to the stage in Lethbridge this December with a production of Elf: The Musical.

The stage show is based off the 2003 film, which starred Will Ferrell as a human man raised by Santa’s elves. The musical version, adapted by Bob Martin and Thomas Meehan, debuted on Broadway on Christmas 2010 and has since been performed around the world. The stage show adds musical numbers and stagecraft to the original story. The Lethbridge production will be performed throughout the holiday season and features local talent from the New West Theatre company.

New West Theatre has a strong tradition of putting on musical theatre, with their productions for this season also including Wonderstruck and Legends of Rock & Country, as well as developmental programs for creative youth. Theatrical events such as this can bring famous plays and musicals to local audiences, often using tools like flyer printing and social media to garner local interest. New West Theatre’s marketing material emphasizes the family nature of the show:

“With catchy songs, colorful costumes, and a talented cast of actors and singers, “Elf: The Musical” is a festive and family-friendly show that’s sure to put a smile on your face.”

The Lethbridge production of Elf: the Musical will be staged at the Enmax Centre between December 14 and 31.
