Lethbridge theatre to present classic story

Lethbridge Musical Theatre will be presenting a modern take on a classic bedtime story this fall with its production of Once Upon A Mattress.

The play is a comedic musical adaptation of the Princess and the Pea fairy tale, with songs by Mary Rogers and Marshall Barer. The play debuted on Broadway in 1959 and has been a staple of musical productions ever since due to its colourful characters and memorable songs.

The Lethbridge version will be staged by director Laurie Mitchell, music director Monica Baczuk, and choreographer Gerry Unger, as part of the Lethbridge Musical Theatre group, which is known for staging family-friendly musicals in the area. The cast will feature an assortment of local musical and acting talent selected through an audition hosted in the spring.

Local theatre productions like this often use methods like brochure printing for programs, as well as advertisements for future shows. Promotional material for this production of Once Upon A Mattress emphasizes the story’s wide appeal:

“Don’t miss your chance to see this side-splitting, song-filled adventure live on stage. Whether you’re a lifelong theatre lover or just in it for the laughs, Once Upon a Mattress will sweep you into a world of outrageous characters, toe-tapping tunes, and happily-ever-afters…with a twist.”

The Lethbridge Musical Theatre production of Once Upon A Mattress will be staged from October 23 to November 1 at the Yates Memorial Theatre.
