The Lethbridge Handmade Market will be presenting a special holiday edition this December, with the goal of connecting busy shoppers with local businesses.
The Market will be showcasing area artists, artisans, and other businesses offering locally produced goods. Past events have featured door prizes and live music, as well as an adjoining farmers’ market. The Holi-Yay event will likely feature festive music, decorations, activities for youngsters like last year’s scavenger hunt and products on sale, as well as a variety of potential gifts. The previous edition of the Market, a Halloween-themed gathering, was a success, with a costume contest and scavenger hunt for young attendees and 111 vendors, including local businesses such as Blazing Bills Fermented Hot Sauces, Forget-Me-Not Expressions, and KCR Custom Embroidery and Felt.
Handmade Market editions also typically include “Kidpreneurs”, with children getting the experience of selling their own items. Local markets such as this are especially popular among the holidays, using tools like flyer printing and social media to attract gift-shoppers. Originally more frequent, the Handmade Market is now held just three times a year, and selects its vendors from a number of submitted applications. The event series was started in 2016 by a trio of local artisans.
The 2022 Holi-Yay edition of the Lethbridge Handmade Market will take place on December 10 at Exhibition Place.
