Lethbridge group reports on sprinklers

The sprinkler system is a vital safety feature in any large building, and the directors of a Lethbridge group that constructs and maintains seniors’ housing has made a commitment to ensure that this is a top priority.

According to the CEO of the Green Acres Foundation, the devices are being installed in all of the company’s newly constricted seniors’ lodges, and they are already in place in most of its current facilities, such as Pemmican and Black Rock Terrace.

One of its buildings, the Garden View Lodge, is not fully fitted with sprinklers yet. While most of the building is up to code, the portion constructed in 1992 before the current building codes were in place does not have them. However, it is a concrete construction and not as susceptible to fire.

As government grants become accessible, the CEO and Board of Directors of the foundation report that they will request a $150,000 grant to upgrade the facility.

According to the Alberta Municipal Affairs, it is estimated that 455 of 657 senior lodges throughout the province are not up to code with their sprinkler systems.
