A group of aviation fans in Lethbridge are looking to acquire a piece of local history. The Time Air Historical Society is raising money to purchase a rare Fokker F28 jet.
The Fokker was the signature plane of Time Air, a local air carrier which served Lethbridge and area between 1966 and 1992. The plane is currently located in Saskatoon, where it is in danger of being sold for scrap. This particular plane was purchased for Time Air’s 25th anniversary, and has an unique logo marking the occasion.
The Historical Society has previously acquired a Shorts SD330 plane, the only member of the original Time Air fleet that still exists. This plane, however, still needs to be transported to Lethbridge from Milwaukee.
The society has reached an agreement with a company to transport both planes if the F28 is purchased. They are hoping to display both at the planned 2020 Lethbridge Air Show. Such air shows, often advertised through flyer printing and poster printing, are a key way of interesting new people in aviation and remembering the industry’s history. The Lethbridge Show has been postponed for the last two years, making the upcoming event doubly important for the Historical Society.
The Time Air Historical Society is currently looking to raise $10, 500 via GoFundMe to purchase the Fokker F28. If able raise the money by January 31, both jets should arrive in Lethbridge by March 2020.
