Lethbridge company brings holiday cheer to children

This past Christmas was made a little bit brighter for Lethbridge kids who had to spend it in the hospital.

Local business H & R Transport collected toys to give to kids in the Chinook Regional Hospital’s paediatric ward, and also to donate to the Salvation Army, which distributes them to children in low income families.

The staff at the company drew tags with a child’s gender and age written on them, and then they choose an appropriate gift. They were then placed under a Christmas tree and finally given out to the kids.

The holiday cheer spread by the company doesn’t stop there; it goes even further, as employee Les Speilman dressed up as Santa to give out the presents to the children in the hospital.

The idea to do this took root 15 years ago when the staff engaged in a friendly ‘Survivor’ style competition, with the cost for entry being the donation of a toy. It was decided that they would be given out to kids in the paediatric unit, and also to the Salvation Army.

Toy drives like this can really help to bring holiday cheer to a child in a less than ideal situation. Stationery printers can add to the festivity by printing special Holiday Cards, coloring sheets, and other items to be included with each gift.
