Curling tournament headed to Lethbridge

One of curling’s most prestigious tournaments, the Brier, will be holding its 2022 edition in Lethbridge this March.

The event sees Canada’s best male curlers go head-to-head, with teams representing each province and territory, as well as the region of Northern Ontario. The teams are selected through a series of trials held across the country over the course of the curling season. This year, there will also be three “wild card” spots for top-ranked teams that fell short in provincial qualifiers, creating a total of 18 teams.

Alberta is guaranteed at least two representatives on home ice, as last year’s champion, Brendan Bottcher of Edmonton and his rink, will compete as Team Canada, with Calgary’s Kevin Koe representing Alberta.

The Brier will consist of two round-robin pools of nine teams each. The top four teams from each group will move forward to a “championship pool”, with the top four from the second round-robin facing off in a play-off to crown a champion. The winning team will get to represent Canada at the 2022 World Men’s Curling Championship in Las Vegas. The Brier is typically a major sporting event in Canada, especially in Alberta. Fans of such events often make use of banner printing to show their support.

The 2022 Brier will take place between March 4 and 13 at the ENMAX Centre in Lethbridge.
