Annual festival to bring classic cars to Lethbridge

One of Lethbridge’s biggest summer events will be rolling back into town, as Street Machine Weekend takes place in July.

The annual festival brings together lovers of classic and custom cars, with over a thousand rare vehicles on display. The event will kick off with live music in a beer garden-like environment and an evening cruise alongside Lethbridge’s 3rd Avenue. Saturday night will see drag races held at Exhibition Park. Children aged 13 and under can gain free admission to the races. The weekend will conclude with a show and shine at Galt Gardens, with all of the cars shined up and on display. There will also be unofficial events held throughout the weekend aimed at attendees from across Southern Alberta.

Food trucks and local vendors and sponsors will be present at events throughout the weekend. The official weekend events are hosted by Street Wheelers, a local organization that helps promote classic car culture and has been in existence since 1976. Its other summer events include a June “power to the pavement” street night and a Labour Day weekend drag race held at Warner Airport. Local hobby groups like this often use tools such as brochure printing and social media to bring together people like this and promote events large and small.

The 2023 Street Machine Weekend will take place throughout Lethbridge from July 14 to 16.
