Poster printing companies in Lethbridge, Alberta, will have no doubt been in great demand in the run up to Valentine's Day, especially to promote Calgary’s Love a Cat/Love a Dog Adopt-a-thon. The event is an effort to illustrate how affordable it is to give a home to an unloved four-legged friend.
Although billed an “adopt-a-thon,” the local charities who are partnering with the city of Calgary on the event asking for a donation to help with the administration costs associated with each adoption. In order to cover vaccination costs and other vets fees, they are asking for a donation of $75 for an adult cat and $100 for and adult dog. According to Bill Bruce, the animal and bylaw services director, getting an adult dog for such a low price is in fact a bargain. The lower prices than what people would ordinarily pay at pet stores are precisely there to motivate people to adopt adult cats and adult dogs.
All adult cats and adult dogs will be prepared in such a way to fit conveniently into a new owner’s lifestyle. All of the animals up for adoption will be neutered and spayed; either tattooed or microchipped; vet checked; vaccinated for all things except for rabies; and get a free six-month license from the city of Calgary.
This “adopt-a-thon” event began yesterday and will run all the way to Monday, Valentine’s Day. It is part of the Year of the Cat awareness campaign, which has also been running for a year.
Though this event will only run for one weekend, Calgary's residents will be well aware of it thanks to printing companies in nearby Lethbridge.
