Almost half of all Albertans will develop some sort of cancer in their lifetime, with 1 in 4 cases being terminal and Leduc residents will have the opportunity to fight cancer through the largest research project ever undertaken in the province of Alberta, The Tomorrow Project.
The Tomorrow Project seeks Albertan participants willing to answer detailed questionnaires about their health and provide on-going biological samples for 50 years. Participants must be 35-69 and cancer-free at the time of volunteering. Volunteers will fill out questionnaires and Forms about their health, provide samples and specimens and be monitored on their health through follow up questions.
Questionnaires are in the form of printed leaflets and will be made available through the Leduc Public library and the Leduc Community Centre. The goal for the project will be to publish gradual changes in volunteers and results, which mirror other similar studies published in other provinces.
Print companies in Leduc can become involved in the extended Tomorrow Project by publishing leaflet questionnaires volunteers answer and posting public notices and publications on the health developments of volunteers over the course of many years. Print companies who wish to advertise the project and assist in publication of results for the Tomorrow Project should contact the province wide project directly.
The goal of the project is to have at least 50,000 Albertans and 300,000 Canadians enrolled by 2013. The research focus will be on understanding why some people develop cancer while others do not.
