What's Happening in Leduc, AB…

Leduc event to promote inclusion

The local LINX Connect organization will be holding a new Light Up For Inclusion event in Leduc this December, aiming to support people with disabilities.

The event, the first of its kind in Leduc, will be a version of the traditional tree lighting ceremony with an emphasis on accessibility. There will be musical entertainment by Choral Morphosis Page, an Edmonton-area choir featuring singers with physical or developmental disabilities. Early visitors can warm up with a limited supply of free hot beverages.

This celebration is designed to coincide with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Local disability service providers will be represented at Light Up for Inclusion, providing information about their services and opportunities to become involved in the Leduc community. Organizations often use brochure printing and signage to outline their services at events like this.

These programs will include the LINX organization’s own program for people with developmental disabilities, including employment services, a residential program, and support for independent living. Their stated goal is to ensure:

“Adults and children with developmental disabilities have opportunities to experience life to their fullest potential. They experience inclusion in taking an active and valued role in society and the opportunity to reside in a community of their choosing.”

Light Up for Inclusion will occur at the Leduc Grain Elevator on the evening of December 3.
