Alberta fencers to gather in Leduc

Leduc will host the Fencing Alberta Open this August, inviting fencers from across the province to cross swords.

The event will feature tournament competition among fencers of all ages and genders. Competitions will be held in the three fencing disciplines, defined by the swords used: épée, foil and sabre. Age groups will range from under 11 to university and veteran competitions. There will also be a wheelchair competition in the épée division. Men’s and women’s competitions will be held separately if there are sufficient numbers.

The Alberta Open is sponsored by the Alberta Fencing Association and is the second event of the year in its Alberta Cup series. Results from the tournament will count toward qualification for provincial team selection for the Canada Winter Games and other events throughout Canada. The tournament is hosted and sponsored by local organizations Nova Pentathlon and Sergei’s Sabre Club.

Amateur sporting events like this one often use methods such as poster printing and social media to help recruit participants and attract spectators. Advertising for the event describes it as:
“…one of Alberta’s premier fencing tournaments, the event showcases skill, strategy and athleticism across multiple age categories.”

The 2026 edition of the Alberta Open will take place from November 6 to 8 at the Leduc Recreation Centre. Discounted event fees will be available for competitors under 13.
