The event is a gravel cycling event aimed at cyclists of all levels of experience. Participants can choose their own pace and distance, or race against friends. There will be rest stops along the outdoor trail. For the 2026 edition there will be three “Alberta Gravel” selected routes for different levels of experience: the 50-kilometre “Hammer”, 90-kilometre “Thunder”, and 150-kilometre “Braveheart”.
Newcomers can also participate in a 24-kilometre fundraising route. Routes do not overlap and will go throughout Leduc’s bike paths, green spaces and riverways. The finish line will feature an open celebration with an expo, refreshments, live music and draw prizes. Proceeds will go towards the Prostate Cancer Centre of Alberta, which is raising money for its “Man Van” mobile testing unit.
Cycling and other athletic events often use flyer printing and social media advertising to help attract a wide array of participants. The event’s website emphasizes the variety of individuals who take part:
“Our riders come from diverse backgrounds, making the Festivus of Gravel a fantastic opportunity to meet new friends in the world of gravel. We believe that our participants are the heart and soul of the event.”
The 2026 Festivus of Gravel will kick off at William F Lede Park in Leduc and run from May 23 to 24.
