The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) from Leduc is asking the public for their feedback on what they believe the police force should focus on for the next two years.
Residents from the City of Leduc, the Town of Calmar, and Leduc County are asked to complete the anonymous survey. The short, simple questionnaire asks area residents to choose their top priorities for policing, in addition to responding to calls for services.
Although this type of survey is not carried out in many cities, the effectiveness of local policing increases if their priorities are supported by the public. The previous study indicated that property crime, organized crime and reducing the number of impaired drivers on the road were priorities for the public. Initiatives to reduce each of these were developed, and community outreach activities and education were implemented by the RCMP. Results of the police interventions were reviewed on a quarterly basis.
Printing services may have been used to create the paper Copies and survey website cards the officers will be handing out. The survey will be available for the entire month of February. The RCMP hopes to improve upon the 2,000 responses it received two years ago to the last questionnaire.
The information gathered from this year’s survey will be reviewed by the RCMP, local policing committees in the region, the City of Leduc and the Leduc County council.
