A request has been made by the Leduc-Nisku Economic Development Association to look for a consultant to create an economic impact analysis and corresponding tourism strategy that can be applied to the International Region.
The goal is for the consultant to analyze the role that the tourism industry plays in the region, and to develop a series of recommendations that can be applied to help this sector grow. According to the Association, the plan is to diversify the economy of the area, making tourism and hospitality establishments – such as restaurants, hotels, and motels – and other facilities play an increased role in the area’s economy. The Association noted that currently, the energy sector is the major driving force in the economic life of the region. It feels that diversification would be a positive step forward. While sports draws some visitors, it is felt that there is a lot to offer in the local area that could attract even more, which would be beneficial by creating jobs and other spinoff benefits.
