The Alberta city of Leduc is the next stop on Sportsnet’s Hometown Hockey series.
Faces familiar from NHL broadcasts such as Ron McLean and Tara Sloane will be in Leduc alongside league alumni for a weekend of activities designed to celebrate Canada’s favourite sport. Footage from Leduc will be aired during the Sportsnet broadcast of a game between the Montreal Canadiens and the nearby Edmonton Oilers.
The Hometown Hockey series is designed to celebrate the game’s grassroots in smaller cities and towns across Canada. In these areas, hockey is often a community effort, with events like Leduc’s upcoming Gary Tremblay Memorial Tournament being often put together by parents and other volunteers. Small businesses can also help these efforts, whether it be bakeries providing fresh donuts for those early morning practices, or Print shops helping out with banner printing.
The series has been a weekly fixture of Sportsnet’s NHL broadcasts since Rogers gained the league’s broadcast rights in 2013.
The broadcast will take place this Sunday, February 3, with a day of activities also happening the day before. Families are encouraged to attend the shooting location, which will include live music and games. The visit to Leduc is one of 25 Hometown Hockey broadcasts taking place this season, and one of five in Alberta, with future trips to Lethbridge and Enoch Cree Nation scheduled for March.
