Leducs food development facility set to expand

The food development facility in Leduc will be getting an injection of funding to help it meet the needs of its users.

The $10m in funds was welcomed by the provincial barley and wheat commissions, which noted that it will help the facility to continue to a be a centre for innovation in the food service sector. It will be used to help expand the premises by 2,350 square meters, resulting in more space for business development. The services and equipment it provides is used by companies, both new and established, to test out new ideas and help their enterprises grow.

Kevin Auch, who is a wheat farmer and chair of the province’s wheat commission, pointed out that the province grows high-quality food, and this can be used to produce superior items for shipment to overseas markets. He is pleased to see this influx of investment in the future of the food processing sector in the province. This can be good news for other industries, as when one part of the economy grows, it can have benefits for other businesses, such as Print companies.

Qiang Lin, who is president of Siwin Foods, noted that Leduc’s food development centre was instrumental in helping his company develop new products, and he is happy to see that an expansion of the facility is on the way.

Food and beverage processing is the second largest manufacturing sector in the province.
