Leduc youngster plans for a hair-raising good time

As of tomorrow, Leduc boy Ethan Berquist will be sporting a very different look to support a good cause.

After hearing stories of kids in need, the eight-year-old decided he wanted to help. His mom suggested that an upcoming event provided the perfect opportunity for him to make a difference.

On February 14, Ethan and many others are expected to descend on the West Edmonton Mall for their ‘Hair Massacure’. Those who take part will donate both their money and their hair. Their tresses will be used to make wigs for children going through treatments like chemotherapy, and the funds collected will go to support a variety of children’s charities such as The Stollery Children’s hospital and Ronald McDonald House.

Ethan carried out his fundraising by canvasing neighbors, family, and friends, and also by collecting bottles. Having raised more than $2,500, his mom has pledged to have her own hair buzzed off if he reaches $10,000. He still has a way to go, but with more public support, she may just find herself with a bald head.
