Leduc’s public transit agency is launching a new program to help local students get around by providing free passes for local buses.

Leduc Transit will offer the passes to any students travelling from Leduc to in-person classes in Edmonton this summer. The offer is available to students at the University of Alberta, MacEwan University, NorQuest College and the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology.

To pick up the passes, students must provide their name, school, student identification number and proof of residence. The provided pass will transport students from Leduc to as far as Edmonton’s Century Park, and it will be valid for all Leduc Transit routes, as well as Edmonton Transit Route 747.

The new pass is a replacement for the U-Pass program, which was temporarily discontinued in 2020 due to schools switching to online lessons. Started in 2014, Leduc Transit is a fairly new system created as a partnership between the City of Leduc and Leduc County. It operates six routes, carrying passengers to locations around Leduc, as well as Edmonton, Nisku and the nearby airport. Public transit services like this often use tools like brochure printing and websites to inform riders about routes and offers such as the student pass.

The summer student pass will be available until May 20 at the Leduc Civic Centre, and it will be valid until August 31.
