The City of Leduc will be holding a special Newcomer Volunteer Mixer this April, aiming to welcome new immigrants and those who speak English as a second language with a multi-cultural party.
The event, subtitled “Year to Connect”, is targeted at newcomers are looking to volunteer and otherwise get involved in the community. Translators will be on hand to help visitors learn about networking opportunities and educational workshops hosted by the municipal government. The mixer will also include cultural performances as entertainment, including Ukrainian singing and dancing, music by the Wajjo African Drummers, and a show by multi-talented Indigenous advocate Don Amero. Visitors can also show off their own musical talents with karaoke performances.
The diversity of the community will also be represented through local vendors and chefs, ranging from the Tasty Indian Kitchen Bar to the Filipino flavours of Rica’s Kitchen. The local community exhibitors will include organizations like Action for Healthy Communities, which provides family and community support throughout Greater Edmonton; Leduc Adult Learning, which offers language and other classes; and the Filipino Association of Leduc, which promotes multiculturalism. Guests at events like this often use Business Cards or other take-home items to help better communicate with potential volunteers and customers.
The City of Leduc Newcomer Volunteer Mixer: Year to Connect will take place on April 5 at the Maclab Centre for the Performing Arts.
