Leduc Sports Hall of Fame announces inductees

The Leduc Sports Hall of Fame has announced a quartet of local legends as its 2021 class.

Headlining the class is Blair Buttar, a high-level golfer who won the 2000 Alberta Amateur Championship, which led to him being runner-up in the Canadian Amateur Championship and competing in the Canadian Open alongside the world’s top pros. Former Leduc junior hockey player Casson Masters, who went on to represent Canada in international tournaments, will too join the Hall of Fame.

Inductees also include Corbin Sharun, a high school football star who went on to play for Edmonton in the Canadian Football League (CFL). Rounding out the class of 2021 is Linda Christensen, who brought the Special Olympics Alberta program to Alberta to help her son and support many more athletes with mental disabilities.

The inductees will be honoured at an official ceremony next year, which will be combined with the 2022 ceremony due to delays. The Leduc Sports Hall of Fame recognizes athletes, teams and leaders who have contributed to the city’s sports culture, selected by a committee. Awards like this can be a memorable way to cap off a career that impacts the local community, and can be physically announced by plaques or banner printing.

The Leduc Sports Hall of Fame announced its 2021 class at the end of the year. Inductees will be enshrined in a delayed ceremony set for November 2022.
