Leduc Rural Learning Project gets injection of cash to keep running

An important development project targeted at adults in rural areas of Alberta and in and around Leduc is receiving an extra $3.2 million towards the development of education outreach projects. The initiative, entitled The Rural Development Fund (RAFD), has already been given $100 million by the provincial government in grant money meant to benefit rural programs. $3.2 million of that money will go towards education programs.

NorQuest College will enhance the quality of learning opportunities to help bridge the formal and informal learning systems of rural communities, which include literacy groups and volunteer tutoring, in addition to formal programming. Community centres will also be involved in face to face programs for adult learners, to help them bridge informal and formal learning systems in rural areas in and around Leduc.

The RADF initiative is part of a larger mandate to provide funding and resource support to local Albertans who may need educational support but are unwilling or unable to leave their communities. Development projects are focussed on developing economic growth and employment prospects for rural residents.
