Good news for the city of Leduc and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 108: After much deliberation, the city will now be hosting its annual Canada Day Parade- the event will be back on the city after a recent announcement by city officials that it would be cancelled.
The decision to revive the annual Leduc tradition comes after a partnership between the Legion and the Alberta Legacy Development Society (ALDS). The decision to cancel the parade was due to conflicting events, including the Black Gold Rodeo Event, and a lack of funding to support multiple events.
The assistance for this year’s parade will come from the Public Services and Community Development and Services Planning (CDSP) departments, and community peace officers, as well as the other two Leduc organizations. The Parade is so far scheduled to begin at the Leduc grain elevator and continue to 50th Avenue, ending at the legion in a flag-raising ceremony.
As a highly anticipated event, the Leduc Canada Day parade will likely be promoted through poster printing and Banners in community spaces, especially after the special efforts to keep the Leduc July tradition alive. Advertising will also reflect the legion and ALDS supporting the important heritage event.
