As is typical for drawings of this type, half of the money raised will go towards a cash prize for a random drawing, and half will go towards charitable causes. The Rotary Club will be splitting proceeds equally between three organizations: the Leduc & District Food Bank, the Boys and Girls Club of Leduc and Rise Up Society Alberta, which provides counseling and physical support to people in need. Blackjacks Roadhouse and Castrol Raceway will also be participating in fundraising efforts for the event.
The Rotary Club has already received contributions from community sponsors, which have allowed it to offer a minimum $40,000 prize. The award could go up to $100,000, depending on community participation.
Raffles like this, often promoted through poster printing and local media advertising, are a common way to incentivize people to donate to charitable causes. The drawing is being marketed under the name “Cash for a Cause”.
Fundraising Director Harold Wilson expressed the importance of local sponsors:
“With this one we wanted to do things differently … there was an opportunity to launch something that was going to be substantial, and one of those things was how do we get to a position where we can guarantee a minimum prize to get things moving.”
The Rotary Club will hold the drawing for the winner of the raffle through an online live stream on July 1, with donations open up until then.
