What's Happening in Leduc, AB…

The Black Gold Quilt Patch Guild, a local Leduc organization, is holding its first gallery show in over two years.

The show, called the Celebration of Quilts, is free to visit and features a variety of creations from the Guild’s 50 members. All of the members’ names from the past 14 years are listed on a wall at the front of the exhibition. The goal is to provide education and create interest in the art of quilting, and visitors can also purchase raffle tickets to win one of two quilts that are on display.

The Guild will also be donating quilts to charitable organizations combating homelessness and other social issues throughout Alberta, such as Blankets of Love and Compassion House.

Celebration of Quilts is designed to build up to the group’s bi-annual Quiltfest event, set for October. This event typically sees hundreds of quilts on display from Leduc, Edmonton and beyond, and it has not been held since 2019. The Guild also hosts monthly sessions with workshops from teachers and speakers from around the world, often virtually. Hobby groups like this, typically finding members through tools like social media and brochure printing, have helped to keep many passions alive over recent years.

The Black Gold Quilt Patch Guild’s Celebration of Quilts is currently on display at the Leduc Arts Foundry, and it will be on display until February 28.
