Users of LeDuc’s Alexandra Street outdoor pool will have to wait until 2015 to enjoy their next swim – but with all the renovations and improvements on the way, it may well be worth the wait.
The renovations and upgrades will be the most substantial that have taken place since it opened 50 years ago. They are expected to cost around $2 million to complete. According to Leduc’s community development coordinator, when the work is finished it will be like having a whole new pool.
It will get a new liner and concrete, and there will also be improvements made to the roof. New change rooms, including one especially for families, along with a new staff and mechanical rooms are also in the works.
A new 5,550 square foot splash pad will also be built. A large portion of the funds for this came from the efforts of the ‘LeDuc Splash Moms’, which worked to raise over $75,000 to help fund its construction. There will also be plenty of park and picnic spaces.
When it’s time for the grand opening next spring, banner printing companies can create colorful decorations and other items to help celebrate the festive occasion.
Those who want to go for a swim this summer are encouraged to visit the indoor pools in the LeDuc recreation center or the outdoor pool in Devon.
