What's Happening in Leduc, AB…

At its most recent city council meeting on September 10, the City of Leduc approved the Parks, Open Space, and Trails Master Plan. The result is more than 24 maps for future open space projects within the city, stretched out over three phases.

The phases will designate new features and amenities, the establishment of multiways, the purchase of lands, implementation of annual tree-planting programs, acquisition of new lands and lakes, and the construction of new areas, and other recreational facilities.

Phase two will involve advanced and senior landscape architecting, future plans and proposals on the development of neighborhood parks and communities, upgrading of aging facilities in parks, and the enhancement of existing parks with natural and cultural features.

The final phase will involve the design and development of integrated facility sites, detailed plans for Telford Lake, and the design and construction of William F. Lede Park to support sports fields. Phase three will culminate with west and north Leduc’s network of multiway and active transportation with nature trails.

The city’s long term capital plan is expected to be reviewed in five years. The first phase is expected to be completed within one to three years.

The new POST plan will mean lots of future business for local printers. Banner printing and signage at community park development sites will be posted at the Leduc park sites displaying proposals, project stages and maps. The POST plan and its stages will probably also gradually be disseminated to local Leduc residents through flyer printing and other printed medium to keep them informed about the future community projects.
