A Leduc landmark will soon be home to a new tenant, as the out-of-service New Sarepta Fire District Station will become the home of a local honey harvester and mead brewer.

High Water Honey & Mead has announced its plans to occupy the station as a means of expanding its operations. The brewery grew out of a hobby berry farm ran by Will Munsey, who became interested in beekeeping and subsequently mead brewing to find a use for the surplus honey. High Water is now distributed by Rig Hand Distillery in Nisku, and offers a variety of flavours based on combinations with locally grown berries.

Munsey has launched a crowdfunding initiative to raise funds for equipment and moving costs, which has been met with an enthusiastic community response. High Water will be renamed “Old Station Honey & Mead”, and Munsey hopes to use the station building to host community events such as concerts and farmers markets.

Events like these are often advertised through means like poster printing, and have been embraced by breweries and gastropubs around the country as they look to expand their brand and roots in the community.

High Water will be looking to confirm its plans by agreeing to a lease with the county of Leduc. The business hopes to take up residence at the end of 2021 and open in early 2022.
