Leduc golf tournament marks 50th year

A golf tournament in Leduc will hold its 50th edition this year, featuring an open competition between workers in the energy industry.

The Leduc Blackgold Oilmen’s golf tournament is one of the oldest such competitions in the province, and it is open to anyone in Alberta’s substantial oil and energy industry. There will be a full day of golfing, with prizes available for those that do well, including a $5,000 Closest to Pin contest and a $100,000 bounty for the elusive hole in one.

After the regular tournament, there will be a “horse race” competition, where high-handicap and low-handicap players are teamed up and alternate shots, with winners receiving up to $2,000.

The day’s golf will be followed by a dinner and awards presentation in the Leduc Golf and Country Club’s recently opened clubhouse. For many participants, the event is a chance to both catch up with old friends and make industry connections. The tournament will also be raising money for the Canadian Junior Golf Association.
