Leduc will be hosting Alberta’s 55+ provincial summer games this August, looking to show that fitness and athletic achievement aren’t only for the young.
The games will incorporate a number of sports and activities, from traditional athletic endeavours like cycling, swimming, and track and field to popular games like bocce, floor curling, and horseshoes. There will also be mental games like euchre and Scrabble. The weekend will also include social events for competitors to get to know each other, including a Games Banquet on Saturday night. Participants will also explore Leduc on exclusive tours to the Antique Society and the Leduc #1 Museum in Devon, marking the starting point of Alberta’s oil industry.
The 55+ Provincial Summer Games are one of the longest-running events of their type in Canada, dating back to a 1976 competition hosted by the Calgary Recreation and Culture Association. The Games tpically include 800 to 1200 competitors, who have qualified through zonal events across the province. The top finishers can move on to the Canada 55 Plus Summer Games in Kamloops next year. Amateur sporting events like this often turn to Print shops and trophy makers to help create plaques and certificates to celebrate the winners as well as everyone who participates.
The 2025 Alberta 55 Plus Summer Games will take place from August 21 to 24 at the Leduc Recreational Centre and surrounding areas.
