The City of Leduc will be holding Volunteerfest this September, with the goal of recognizing people who volunteer their time and effort to making the city a better place.
The festival will culminate in an award ceremony recognizing outstanding citizens and groups that have made an impact through volunteer work in the community, with special Citizens of Distinction and Influencer awards.
The Citizens of Distinction Awards are voted on annually and include honours like the Athletic Achievement Award; Arts, Culture and Heritage Recognition Award; and Youth Award of Merit for volunteers 16 and under. The Influencers Award is designed to celebrate contributions by youths between 17 and 21. The event will also include staged entertainment from local artists prior to the ceremony, and food and refreshments provided by Kosmo’s.
There will also be a scavenger hunt event designed to educate the public more about the importance of volunteer work and local opportunities to help out. Volunteerfest is also aimed at helping prospective volunteers connect with local organizations. There will be a trade show-style “organization showcase” with booths from local nonprofit groups, allowing them to both say thanks to their volunteers and recruit new ones. Organizations often use flyer printing and social media to showcase the work that they are doing.
Volunteerfest will take place at Stone Barn Garden on the afternoon of September 11.
