Leduc event encourages brings running to the lake

After a successful first installment, KidSport Leduc will be bringing back its “Loop the Lake” event, encouraging local runners to challenge themselves and raise money for a community cause.

The event is a road race along a track that loops around Telford Lake. Runners can take on both the 5k and 10k distances, with the latter going around the whole lake. Those who prefer something slower-paced and less competitive can sign up for a 5-kilometre walk, or a 1-kilometre Family Fun Walk aimed at those with young children, including kid-friendly goodie Bags. The run will also have post-race snacks for all. The two runs will be timed, and participants will receive commemorative shirts and medals.

Funds raised for the race will go towards the KidSport organization, which helps provide grants for children in Leduc County to participate in recreational sports. Participants are encouraged to raise money as part of teams, which can be seen on an online leaderboard. Charity runs and walks such as this are often advertised through poster printing, social media, and other methods, and can make up a major part of a non-profit organization’s operating budget.

The 2024 Loop the Lake event will take place on the morning of May 11 at Telford Park. Advance registration is required, including separate registration for children.
