One of Leduc’s biggest light displays will be staying in the community for this holiday season, albeit under new ownership and at a new location.
Leduc County Lights was first started by Doug and Yvonne Ruel over a decade ago, and now encompasses a large volunteer effort to present a spectacular light display. The Ruels announced that last year would be their last running the display, but have passed the tradition on to the Kinsmen Club of Leduc and the West Antique Society. This involved the transfer of nine trailers of lights, suggesting the scale of the display – and the effort to put it on. Dozens of volunteers work weekends and evenings to create a large spectacle of holiday lights, operate it, and welcome visitors.
The new display is set up at the Antique Society’s outdoor heritage museum in the western part of the city. This version of Leduc County Lights will be a little larger than previous, incorporating pioneer-era buildings and antiques from the museum. Light displays like this can quickly become holiday traditions and bring together the local community, and are sometimes advertised with poster printing and Promotional Products, although word of mouth is also essential.
The revamped 2019 edition of Leduc County Lights will be held throughout December. Donations will be collected for the Leduc & District Food Bank.
