What's Happening in Leduc, AB…

The Leduc Track Club has recently returned from the Alberta Indoor Track and Field Championships with an impressive haul of 18 championship medals.

The local club fielded local teams and athletes in a variety of disciplines and age groups. The under-18 girls’ relay squad, consisting of Julianna Chipiuk, Meadow Drebert, Libby Dunn and Lauren Dellezay, took home a gold in the 4x400 metre race. Dellezay also claimed gold in the pole vault competition and silver in the high jump.

Other gold medal winners included Andrea Jacob in the girls’ under-16 shotput competition, and Brady Keller’ in the boys’ under-16 1,200 metre race. The Leduc athletes also took home seven silver and seven bronze medals, with many athletes setting personal bests.

An amateur club, Leduc Track sees athletes compete at all ages from seven and up and levels in a variety of competitions in Alberta and beyond. With the indoor season done, the club will now turn its attention to a summer full of outdoor competition, including several meets in the Edmonton area, the Jack Brow Memorial and Kelowna, and the Arcadia Invitational Meet in California, for qualified high-school aged athletes. Amateur athletic clubs like this often rely on local support, from early-morning carpools to banner printing.

The Alberta Indoor Track and Field Championships concluded on March 6. Leduc Track will be training for its indoor season at the John Bole Athletic Park beginning in April, with new sign-ups welcome.
