SkirtsAfire, an Alberta multidisciplinary festival focused on women in theatre and the arts, will be making its return this March for its 11th annual edition.
The festival will take place across 11 days and feature a mixture of genres, including comedy, graphic design, dance, music and theatre. Festivities will kick off with a gala event with music by DJ Kena, followed by the annual A-Line Variety Show featuring female-identifying artists. Theatrical events scheduled throughout the week include The Space Between Stars, Christine Lesiak’s adaptation of classic children’s novel The Little Prince; singer-songwriters performing under the title The Key of Me; the emBODYment Aerial & Dance show; and a collaboration with the Juno Awards.
The SkirtsAfire Festival will be taking place in Edmonton and hoping to draw in theatre and arts lovers from nearby areas such as Leduc. There will also be art and fashion installations installed at the Gateway Theatre, as well as various businesses located along the city’s Whyte Street. This includes the eponymous skirts, which feature unique designs from local artisans. Each event will have pay-what-you-can tickets and accessibility measures to make sure that everyone who wants to s able to attend.
The 2023 SkirtsAfire festival is set to take place between March 2 and 12 at various locations in Edmonton’s Old Strathcona area.
