A Canadian holiday tradition will be coming to Leduc this December, as the CP Holiday Train makes a stop in the Alberta city.

The train runs about 1,000 feet in length and is decorated with hundreds of thousands of festive lights. Two trains start the tour in Montreal and travel to railway stops across the country. The train also contains a mobile stage, which plays host to live musical artists. Playing in Leduc will be Albertan country singer Tenille Townes and Indigenous singer-songwriter Aysanabee. The performance will be free, with a festive atmosphere surrounding the length of the train.

The goal of the Holiday Train is to raise money for local food banks, with spectators encouraged to bring canned food and other non-perishable items, or food bank donations. Since launching in 1999, the program boasts raising $21 million and collecting five million pounds of food. Long-time charitable events such as this, typically advertised through tools like poster printing and local media, help to support non-profit organizations year-round. The Holiday Train will have a busy schedule as it runs through Alberta, making multiple stops on each day, with the Leduc show being the capper on a day of six stops including Blackfalds, Ponoka and Millet.

The CP Holiday Train will stop in Leduc at 47th Street on the evening of December 8.
